Description

Geminids 2022 meteor shower from a volcanic region (red color of the ground) next to an old dry lake (whitish color) in Owens Valley CA. This area has quite a lot of history and geography, being home to Native Americans and experiencing a volcanic eruption around 20000-10000 years ago. The Moon rose around 10 pm limiting my imaging to only a few hours. The camera has been fixed in place the whole time taking around 500 short exposures for around 3 hours. Then only the frames in which a meteor showed up are selected, registered and aligned to the same reference frame (the sky frame). The sky frame is an unguided stack of 15X20 sec of those 500 frames. The light pollution is from Las Vegas nearly 150 miles (250 km) away. Taken with a Canon T2i camera and a Rokinon 14mm lens at f2.8.
